Job Summary:

The Social Media & Content Specialist is an enterprise role, responsible for developing, optimizing, and nurturing social media channels, to advance business goals. The Social Media & Content Specialist is responsible for creating rich & engaging video and graphical content, answering questions, engaging customers, and is the voice behind the brand, while ensuring an enterprise approach to social media.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages multiple social media communities, programs, and campaigns across various social media platforms, and across BCLC’s business, including BCLC’s business-to-business customers (i.e. PlayNow Manitoba).
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement all key components of BCLC’s social media footprint. Responsible to drive community growth and engagement including support of the social media strategy, content planning, content development, scheduling, posting, and monitoring. Campaigns are executed on time and on budget.
  • Develops engaging, relevant, and varied content across social media channels. Effective at communication in long and short form content but is also proficient in visual design and familiar with creative development and production.
  • Provides superior customer service. Listens attentively across all social media channels and effectively responds to questions, comments, and complaints with a great deal of transparency and authenticity. Understands how to handle a wide variety of situations with confidence, accuracy, empathy, and humour (when appropriate).
  • Develops and maintains performance reporting and metrics on both an aggregate and on an initiative basis in order to demonstrate proof of performance and the value of social media. Proactively and regularly, communicates results to key stakeholders.
  • Actively tests and analyses social media initiatives to maximize performance and ensure the bottom-line success of social media activity.
  • As a subject matter expert, implements best practices and stays on top of industry trends and emerging techniques, as it pertains to social media. Proactively identifies opportunities to improve social media activity with an eye for innovation and “out of the box” thinking.
  • Proactively builds, develops, maintains and manages strong working relationships with various internal departments, business partners and suppliers to ensure successful execution of social media initiatives.


Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • A university degree in a related discipline such as design, marketing, or communications;
  • 3 - 5 years related experience;
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.


Technical Requirements

  • Proven results and demonstrated experience in social media and content marketing;
  • Proficiency in the principles, concepts, practices, techniques and tools in the areas of marketing, communications, journalism, and program management;
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly creative and innovative;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly collaborative in nature;
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills;
  • Responsive and solutions-oriented, able to handle a wide variety of sensitive situations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the social media medium combined with skills in visual design and multi-media;
  • Familiarity with social media and web analytics tools (i.e. Hootsuite, Radian6/Social Studio, Shoutlet, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, and Google Analytics);
  • Skilled and proficient in Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro (or Final Cut Pro)
  • Understanding of B.C. gaming industry is an asset.
