In our recently completed fiscal year, BCLC generated a record $1.4 billion in net income to the Province of B.C. to support First Nations, host local governments, health care, education and community programs across the province.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

 As the Senior Specialist, Social Purpose & Engagement, you’ll help bring BCLC’s social purpose to life through internal and external initiatives related to the BCLC Human Connection Project: https://corporate.bclc.com/our-social-purpose/human-connection-project.html You’ll work with teams across BCLC and with external partners and community stakeholders to plan, coordinate and deliver engagement activities and events that build trust, support positive community outcomes, and reflect BCLC’s social purpose.

This role may include flexible hours and occasional travel within B.C. to support engagement sessions, partner meetings, and community events.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Help plan and deliver the BCLC Human Connection project, turning strategy into clear, practical implementation plans and timelines.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community groups, local leaders, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders to support project delivery and strengthen programs that bring people together for connection.
  • Work with internal teams (e.g. Marketing, Player Health, Corporate Communications, Operations and more) to integrate purpose into operations, decisions, relationships, products, experiences and more.
  • Identify the stakeholders that matter most for the BCLC Human Connection Project and implement engagement plans for each.
  • Identify sponsorships and community events that bring people together for connection and build brand awareness for BCLC, and plan related activation opportunities.
  • Track community and stakeholder issues and spot risks or opportunities early; recommend practical ways to respond that align with BCLC’s goals and values.
  • Design and run engagement activities (workshops, listening sessions, partner meetings, briefings, community events) and make sure learnings are captured and shared.
  • Share timely updates with leaders, including stakeholder feedback, project status, and recommended next steps (including sensitive information when needed).
  • Suggest improvements that strengthen BCLC’s reputation and help the BCLC Human Connection project delier meaningful community impact.
  • Represent BCLC at meetings and events, building productive relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Communicate in a clear, open and respectful way, and build strong working relationships across BCLC and with external stakeholders.
  • Support budget planning and tracking for engagement activities and project delivery.
  • Step in for the Manager, Social Purpose & Engagement when needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated skills may be considered.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, business/marketing, or a related discipline;
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS

 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of strategic communications, corporate communications, and issues management;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the areas of stakeholder engagement, reputation management and community relations;
  • Advanced demonstration of strategic development and implementation of communication plans and materials;
  • In-depth analytical and research skills; able to quickly and accurately find, absorb, and analyze industry information and recognize key patterns and trends.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
