Agile Coach


As an Agile Coach…

You are driving force behind a team becoming agile. Using your experience of leading teams by example and knowledge of agile frameworks and methodologies you build strategies to ensure that teams adopt the Agile thinking and practices to deliver to the business goals.  You are instrumental in setting-up the teams, supporting them in taking greater ownership of their work and driving the adoption of Agile practices, conversations and behaviors throughout the team’s lifecycle.  As an Agile Coach you will be responsible for the team’s performance on how they work together to deliver value more frequently and more efficiently. Furthermore, you will work with other coaches in order to influence the greater Business Technology and Business Units teams embrace and implement the agile mindset and practices.

You are someone who sees the value in meaningful relationships and the power of self-organized autonomous team focussed on business value and continuous improvement.  You understand and have real-world application experience of the importance of being a servant leader for the team, demonstrating the values of agile, modelling how to perform the chosen practices, coaching the team to experiment as a way of learning and validating hypothesis and introducing new techniques from the Agile Practice capability with a view to promote the quality of products and deliverables on an ongoing basis.  For this role, you bring the following qualifications…

  • University degree in Business, Computer Science or a related/relevant field; plus, 5 years in a leadership role leading IT initiatives or delivery teams.  Prior experience in program delivery, project management, scrum master or process improvement role is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence people at all levels in the organization. 
  • Exceptional presentation and facilitation skills with ability to express goals and new ideas clearly to the team, give direct feedback, welcome comments, questions and feedback, reinforcing key messages and celebrating success.
  • Ability to take a strategic lens to enterprise transformation, identifying opportunities.
  • Strong process engineering skills with ability to apply them to new Agile delivery team(s) and to implement continual improvement as a result of learning and feedback (technology, people, process).
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring at an individual and team level. Experience facilitating and coaching at the team of teams level or Program level would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated organizational and people change management skills.
  • Experience aligning agile teams to a vision for Agile, with the ability to build a common understanding of what agility is and the impact it will have on business as usual and ensure each team member learns new practices, adopts a new mindset, develops new skills and adapts to changing priorities more successfully.
  • Experience in creating an effective team environment, building strong relationships, negotiation, and conflict resolution, while incrementally supporting teams to increase their ability to solve their problems, advocate and implement changes for smoother delivery and relentlessly rally around solving impediments.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying different agile metrics to help team meet work commitments with realistic capacity plans and estimates and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Understanding of agile methodologies such as SAFE, SCRUM, Kanban, Lean, Design Thinking, scaled Agile frameworks etc.  In addition understanding and experience in using Agile type collaboration tools such as Jira, Slack, etc.
  • At least 1-2 Agile certifications (methodology-based certifications e.g. CSM, PSM) and/or Agile Team Facilitating or Coaching certifications.
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Viso, Access)
