Job Summary:
The Manager, Legal Administration and Corporate Policy is responsible for managing activities related to BCLC’s legal administrative services and corporate policy services.


Accountabilities:
•    Provides leadership to the department by developing and implementing strategies and plans for the teams that align with BCLC’s strategic direction, and supports key initiatives for the Legal Services department.
•    Manages the provision of legal administrative services for BCLC’s Legal team, working closely with the General Counsel and legal counsel to ensure legal support activities are identified and prioritized.
•    Manages the development of corporate policy services, facilitating policy and related documentation development in alignment with BCLC’s governance model and in compliance with governing legislation, regulations and directives.
•    Establishes, maintains and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
•    Ensures on-going communication and represents the team credibly.
•    Provides strong people leadership and strategic direction to the department by championing BCLC's vision, mission and values, while ensuring the teams under leadership have the technical and people skills required to meet departmental and enterprise objectives.
•    Models leadership behaviours that support engagement of staff such as practicing meaningful recognition, inspiring a shared vision, communicating with staff regularly, coaching/mentoring others, conducting performance management, and supporting culture and change management initiatives.
•    Develops operational budget and may present business cases for capital expenditures and makes financial decisions in addition to approving financial expenditures for the department.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a minimum 2 years’ formal legal training; 
•    5-7 years relevant experience, including legal administrative services experience and experience leading and developing people;
•    Experience in operational process or policy development is required; and
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Technical Requirements
•    Experienced in policy development and training;
•    Strong understanding of corporate organizational and governance principles;
•    Ability to manage time efficiently and ability to plan and organise workload and consistently meet deadlines, often under pressure;
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
•    Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking/innovation;
•    Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills;
•    Committed to continuous improvement and driven to question and improve processes, systems, practices as appropriate;
•    Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and influence others;
•    Demonstrated people leadership skills;
•    Proven ability to deal with sensitive matters with a high degree of tact and diplomacy; and
•    Understanding of B.C. gaming industry is an asset.
