JOB SUMMARY

 

The Manager, Legal Operations and Corporate Policy is responsible for overseeing and managing the activities related to BCLC’s legal operational services and corporate policy services. This role develops and implements strategies to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal department, ensuring compliance with governing legislation and regulations, and aligning legal operations with BCLC's strategic objectives. The Manager, Legal Operations and Corporate Policy will also lead the development of corporate policies, facilitate policy documentation, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support BCLC's mission and values.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides leadership to the Legal Operations department by developing and implementing operational and administrative improvement strategies and plans to support the SP&EI strategy of enhancing service delivery.
  • Sets the overall direction of the Legal Operations team in close cooperation with the Legal team and BCLC operational divisions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal department’s administration. 
  • Manages and leads the Policy Team in development of corporate policy services, facilitating policy and related documentation development in alignment with BCLC’s governance model and in compliance with governing legislation, regulations and directives.
  • Interprets data to assist the Legal department with decision making that leads to increased efficiency. 
  • Oversees the implementation and maintenance of technology solutions for the Legal and Corporate Policy teams.
  • Makes data-driven decisions to assist the Legal department to improve service delivery.
  • Establishes, maintains and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align legal operations and corporate policy framework with overall business objectives. 
  • Ensures ongoing communication, and represents the team credibly, to external stakeholders.
  • Provides strong people leadership and strategic direction to the department by championing BCLC's vision, mission and values, while ensuring the team under leadership has the technical and people skills required to meet departmental and enterprise objectives.
  • Leads the Legal Operations and Policy teams, including allocating work, reviewing, and providing feedback, performance reviews and development plans.
  • Manages a budget, consisting of salaries, contracts, and development resources, and provides direction to ensure appropriate allocation of resources and skills are accessible to execute in accordance with established standards and timelines
  • Acts as delegate for their leader as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated skills may be considered.
 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, law, or a related field;
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, including legal operations, project management, or a related field, and experience leading and developing people;
  • Minimum 2 years’ legal training or equivalent.

 

KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Experienced in corporate and operational process or policy development;
  • Strong understanding of legal processes and technology;
  • Strong understanding of corporate organizational and governance principles;
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Preferred qualifications may include:

  • Certifications in project management (e.g. PMP) or legal operations (e.g. CLOC) are an asset;
  • Understanding of Agile methodology or experience working with a cross-functional team environment would be an asset;
  • Understanding of B.C. gaming industry would be an asset.
