Job Summary:
The Senior Specialist uses specialised technical expertise and leadership to ensure the strategic objectives of the Financial Reporting and Systems department are met in relation to the oversight of BCLC’s compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  This role is accountable for ensuring set service levels are maintained and initiatives are executed in accordance with organizational requirements.  The Senior Specialist leads a team responsible for ensuring financial standard compliance.

 

Key Accountabilities:
•    Lead for Finance with respect to the Financial Statement audit process.  This includes liaising with all internal stakeholder groups and the external auditor to ensure all audit support is provided in accordance with the audit schedule. 
•    Approves all financial standards assessments.  Ensures that the assessments support the corporation’s compliance with IFRS. Elevates any high impact issues to the manager with accompanying recommendations. 
•    Monitors for IFRS changes that are applicable to the corporation and leads the assessment of the impact of adoption and implementation
•    Manages and oversees all initiatives and the action plan for financial standards components of the Financial Reporting and Systems mandate.  For example, the creation and implementation of processes to support new external audit requirements and enhancement the internal customer experience for standards assessments.
•    Provides leadership to staff through day-to-day supervision and scheduling, and by inspiring a shared vision, building strong relationships, and modeling leadership behaviours that support engagement of staff through recognition, communication, and coaching.  Participates in people resources decisions, including recruitment, hiring, terminations, and compensation, in coordination with HR and the Manager. Conducts performance reviews and helps determine professional development needs and opportunities for staff. 


Minimum Required Qualifications:


Education and Experience
•    Post-secondary degree in finance, accounting or a related discipline;
•    Canadian CPA designation is mandatory;
•    4 – 6 years’ related experience;
•    An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

 

Technical Requirements
•    Excellent knowledge and understanding of quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
•    Excellent analytical ability, a strong understanding of analytical concepts and well developed creative problem solving skills;
•    Demonstrated ability to present complex information orally and written in an easily understood manner;
•    Ability to work within established deadlines and time constraints;
•    Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
•    Knowledge of corporate financial systems;
•    Extensive knowledge of accounting principles with the ability to apply them in a practical way;
•    Exceptional professional judgment with experience in exercising it effectively in the decision making process;
•    Ability to act on own initiative, to exercise sound judgment and to prioritize tasks;
•    Proven leadership skills with the ability to be self-motivated, work independently, as well as lead of a team;
•    Excellent interpersonal, time management and multi-tasking  skills;
•    Strong MS Office skills, including advanced Excel skills.
