This is a Temporary < 12 Months, Full Time opportunity. As this is a temporary role, the successful candidate will receive $1/hour in lieu of benefits once completing 975 hours.
Expected Salary Range: $104,662.00 - $130,827.00 - $163,533.00
Our typical hiring range will be +/- 5% of the midpoint shown above

The Team
Joining the Social Purpose & Marketing Division (SP&M) means you’ll be working with a group of talented professionals in Social Purpose, Community & Stakeholder Engagement, Communications & Government Relations, Marketing, CRM & Loyalty, and Customer Support. As a Crown corporation that earns more than a billion dollars in annual revenue for B.C., BCLC’s commitment to giving funds back to the province is an integral part of our business, but still only one piece of the picture.
The Marketing team is pivotal to setting the overarching strategic marketing vision, direction, and marketing objectives for the business. We are business partners to BCLC’s extensive network, including but not limited to Product, Operations, Player Health, and external partners. We’ve built a strong & supportive community within our team, and we take pride in bridging various parts of the business for alignment to help deliver the best marketing plans and outcomes for our players and partners.
The Role
The Manager, Sports Marketing leads the operational planning, development and execution of all marketing experiences for the PlayNow Sports and Proline brands and supports our Stakeholder Engagement teams in activating against our sports sponsorships with the Vancouver Canucks, Abbotsford Canucks and BC Lions to deliver on BCLC partnership goals and objectives.
In this role you will lead a team of passionate marketing professionals who live sports every day. Understanding sports marketing cycles, player needs, and internal stakeholder objectives, and being able to translate those into a marketing strategy and vision will be critical. You rally people and resources to turn that vision into reality, to help BCLC deliver on our revenue and player acquisition and retention targets. You lead a team of exceptional marketing professionals and are responsible for the development, retention, and strategic alignment of your team members inclusive of your member's performance and success.
What you will accomplish
- Develop marketing plans and strategies for PlayNow Sports, Proline and BCLC’s sports sponsorships, alongside the Senior Manager Marketing and in collaboration with the Sports Product team.
- Ensure marketing plans are executed on time, on budget and in scope by the Sports Marketing team.
- Oversee performance and optimization, ensuring marketing plans are tailored to deliver against specific outcomes and the BCLC corporate strategy. Provide support on business insights in relation to strategic marketing planning and establish KPI's and reporting for areas of accountability.
- Ensure marketing strategies and plans are implemented and aligned with Player Experience (PX) strategies to address player/retailer pain points/barriers.
- Collaborate closely with the marketing leadership team to ensure holistic BCLC business objectives are delivered vs. Solely line of business objectives.
- Provide strong people leadership to a team of marketing professionals, and champion BCLC's vision, mission and Values in Action.
- Direct all aspects of running a successful Sports Marketing team, including hiring, on-boarding, practicing meaningful recognition, coaching, training, goal setting, performance management, and motivating direct reports.
- Manage a marketing budget and provide budget insights and updates as required by marketing leadership, ensuring the respective budget is managed to propel the business forward.
- Build and maintain relationships with external agencies, vendors, and partners.
- Collaborate with functional teams and stakeholders across the business to identify, plan and lead the creation of marketing plans and experiences, including those outside of the sports marketing team.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a related discipline
- 5 to 7 years of related experience, specifically including recent experience in the planning and development of large marketing campaigns
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing people
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
- Working knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, techniques and tools in the areas of customer experience marketing, experiential marketing & promotions
- Demonstrated experience in strategic business planning and resource management in a leadership capacity
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing change with teams ensuring that sound change management and training principles are applied
- Familiarity with current marketing trends and best practices, to drive team ideation and experimentation

- You’ve worked in industries where the landscape can change quickly and can rally stakeholders and resources to respond
